We are Kevin Barron and Darren Rider. We have taken up the mad challenge to cycle the Death Valley in November 2009! We will cycle over 260 miles through the desert, into Death Valley and back out to Las Vegas. To make this challenge even easier, daytime temperatures can reach 100 degrees and there are daily road climbs of over 5,200 feet. The doctor says we'll be fine, although a psychiatrist isn't available for comment.
The cycle challenge starts in Beatty Junction, Nevada, about 100 miles north of Las Vegas. Over the following five days, we will cycle over 260 miles through the desert before riding into Death Valley, where the dramatic rock formations and arid landscapes make it one of America's greatest national parks.
The final leg will consist of a 60 mile cycle through the barren Nevada desert and into Las Vegas, before finishing off with a victorious cycle ride down the famous Strip.
Our endeavour is to raise £7,000 for two important charities

MAG is the organiser of this event and will be providing us with all the medical back-up, bikes and accommodation through Death Valley, so we aim to raise £3,000 each for MAG in order to partake in the event, and an additional £1,000 (or more if possible) for Cancer Research UK.
